Ukraine proposes to postpone peace talks and change venue, Zelensky says
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has approached the United States with a proposal to possibly change the location and delay the trilateral meeting for some time due to the war in the Middle East.
He said this in an interview with Rai Italia, Ukrinform reports.
"The next Ukraine–U.S.–Russia trilateral meeting was planned for the period from March 5 to 9, depending on developments around the world. Currently, there is another war in the Middle East. We spoke with the American side, since they are the party inviting Ukraine and Russia to the meeting, about the possibility of changing the location and postponing the meeting for a while due to the war in the Middle East," Zelensky said.
He added that he hopes the prisoner exchange agreed upon in previous meetings will still be confirmed. "A POW exchange is always an important moment – it is a positive outcome for families. We sincerely hope that in the coming days we will be able to begin this exchange process," he emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported, following the Geneva talks, Zelensky stated that there has been progress on military issues, specifically monitoring the ceasefire, while on political issues, territories, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and other sensitive matters, the parties' positions remain different.
The next delegation meeting was planned for early March in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
