Zelensky stresses importance of China's role in ending Russia's war against Ukraine

For Ukraine, it is important to involve China in efforts to end the war, as the supply to Russia of certain types of weapons and dual-use components depends on it.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this while answering journalists' questions, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"For us it is important to involve them [China] – not in the war, but in ending the war that Putin brought to Ukraine. I think this is within their power. In any case, regarding the supply of certain types of weapons and dual-use items, the Chinese leader can influence all of this. Their participation would certainly not be a bad thing for us. For now, however, we do not see their involvement," Zelensky said.

He noted that he had a productive conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz following the chancellor's visit to China and thanked him for raising the issue of the war in Ukraine during his meetings.

Zelensky also instructed Ukrainian diplomats to "stay in contact with the Chinese side."

Earlier, during his visit to Beijing, Merz called on the Chinese leadership to use its influence to help end Russia's war against Ukraine.
