PACE to vote on resolution in support of Ukraine on Tuesday — Kravchuk
On January 27, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will hold debates and vote on the main resolution of the winter session concerning Ukraine.
This was announced by Yevheniia Kravchuk, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, in a comment to Ukrinform.
The Ukrainian delegation will draw attention to the humanitarian consequences of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure and the need for long-term international support.
“Our main task at this session is to draw attention to the humanitarian situation in Ukraine as a result of cynical Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, especially in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, as well as Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kryvyi Rih, and other cities that Russia wants to plunge into darkness and cold,” she said.
Ukraine will have an opportunity to express its position on Tuesday, when debates and voting on the main resolution of this session will take place.
"It is about a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. And, importantly, about security for the whole of Europe. This is absolutely the right resolution, particularly given the negotiations and pressure from Russia. Although the Council of Europe does not have security elements in its mandate, even here they link the security of Ukraine and Europe as part of the security architecture of the European continent," Kravchuk emphasized.
She says that we should thank the European countries that have provided additional assistance. These are all those who have already joined the “Energy Ramstein” or are conducting special fundraising for generators, such as Poland.
“At the same time, we should call for these efforts to continue, because when winter ends, there will obviously be a period of restoration of the energy infrastructure, and we need to be ready for the next heating season. Therefore, in addition to immediate support, we should plan for long-term stable aid and investment,” the MP added.
This year's first winter session of the PACE will begin on Monday, January 26, and will last until January 30. Another important event at the session is expected to be the election of a new president of the Assembly to replace the current head, Theodoros Rousopoulos.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos, discussed peace initiatives and a shared stance on future negotiations during a meeting in Stockholm.
