Zelensky confirms talks with Trump on possible deployment of US troops in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that he is holding talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on the possible deployment of American troops in Ukraine, but stressed that such a decision would depend solely on the U.S. leader.

The head of state said this while answering journalists' questions, Ukrinform reports.

When asked whether, as part of security guarantees, the United States plans to deploy its troops in Ukraine – along the line of demarcation or at the border – Zelensky said: "To be honest, this can only be confirmed by the President of the United States of America. These are U.S. troops, and therefore it is America that makes such decisions. Of course, we are discussing this both with President Trump and with representatives of the Coalition [of the Willing]."

He added that Ukraine would like to see U.S. troops on its territory as a security guarantee. According to Zelensky, this would be a strong position in terms of security guarantees.

As reported, U.S. President Donald Trump said that a lot of progress had been made in talks on ending the war following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which took place on Sunday, December 29, at the Mar-a-Lago residence in the state of Florida.
