UN Under-Secretary-General stresses importance of Ukraine’s territorial integrity
The United Nations wants to see Ukraine able to move forward, exercising full control over its territory, within the framework of a just peace.
Rosemary A. DiCarlo, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, stated this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“We believe it is really important that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders be respected. There must be a just peace. And we want to see that Ukraine is able to move forward in full control of its territory,” she noted.
DiCarlo emphasized that peace must come to Ukraine, and in the UN’s conviction, it must be grounded in international law.
As reported by Ukrinform, on November 23, Ukrainian, American, and European officials met in Geneva to discuss the peace plan proposal presented by Washington regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
Following negotiations between the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations in Geneva, the parties agreed to continue working on joint proposals for a peace agreement. The parties confirmed that any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and ensure a sustainable and just peace.
As a result of the talks, the parties prepared an updated and refined framework document on peace.
