Zelensky, Trump meet at White House
Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and Donald Trump of the United States, together with their delegations, have begun bilateral talks at the White House, taking place in the format of an official working lunch.
According to Ukrinform's correspondent, the sides are expected to discuss opportunities for a peaceful settlement of Russia's war, the supply of new weapon systems to Ukraine, and other related issues.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which he described as "productive." He also stated that he plans to meet with Putin in Hungary within two weeks.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the U.S. president changed his rhetoric about the possibility of providing Ukraine with American Tomahawk missiles, saying they need Tomahawks for the United States too and they cannot deplete their country's stockpiles. Trump also said he wants to discuss the support for sanctions against Russia with Republicans in Congress, adding that from his perspective this issue is untimely, ahead of his planned meeting with Putin.
The leaders are expected to hold extended bilateral talks. After that, Zelensky plans to have a press conference in Washington.
As Ukrinform reported, prior to his visit to Washington, Zelensky and Trump held a phone call to discuss ways to end Russia's war in Ukraine.
