Trump on Russia's war against Ukraine: Zelensky has to make a deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "is going to have to make a deal" to end the war unleashed by Russia, while Europe, in his view, must stop buying Russian oil.

He made the remarks on Tuesday before departing for a state visit to the United Kingdom, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Zelensky is going to have to make a deal, and Europe has to stop buying oil from Russia," Trump said.

He also commented on his vision of a possible settlement: "It takes two to tango. Those are two people, Zelensky and Putin, that hate each other."

In this context, Trump suggested he might "have to sit in the room with them, because they can't sit in a room together."

Commenting on Europe's purchases of Russian oil, Trump emphasized his strong opposition.

"I don't want them purchasing Russian oil, and they've got to stop immediately. Not fair to us," he said.

Trump also stressed that this war should never have happened. Once again, he said that he loves Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and wants the war to end.

Zelensky earlier called on Trump to take a "clear position" on sanctions against Russia and on security guarantees for Ukraine to stop Putin and end the war.
