Canada is promoting various initiatives to support Ukraine at different levels within NATO.

This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by former Deputy Chief of the Canadian Defense Staff Mark Norman.

“Behind the scenes, the machinery of government and the military is working diligently to support Ukraine, not for show, but because it’s the right thing to do,” Norman said, commenting on Canada's role in shaping NATO policy toward Ukraine and deterring Russia.

He stressed that Canada “has always been an active participant in NATO.”

“We’re not European geographically, but we share many of the same values and interests. That gives us a unique perspective and influence, especially as one of only two non-European members. We contribute leadership, troops, and political consistency,” said the former deputy chief of the Defense Staff.

As reported by Ukrinform, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to significantly increase defense spending, bringing it to 2% of GDP this year.
