Scholz confident he can negotiate joint Ukraine strategy with Trump – media

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, after a phone conversation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, expressed confidence in reaching an agreement on a joint strategy for Ukraine.

According to Reuters, Scholz made this statement in an interview with the German media group Funke, Ukrinform reports.

"I am confident that we can develop a joint strategy for Ukraine. My guiding principle remains that nothing can be decided without giving the Ukrainian people a say," Scholz stated.

He added he had spoken with the future U.S. president "in detail" and that his team was in a direct exchange with Trump's security advisers.

As reported by Ukrinform, during his visit to Kyiv on December 2, Chancellor Scholz reiterated his refusal to provide Taurus missiles to Ukraine but emphasized the significant military support Germany had provided overall.
