If Congress delays aid, Ukrainians will face tangible consequences - State Department

The U.S. State Department has warned of the possibility of significant consequences for Ukrainians if the U.S. Congress continues to delay its decision on further military, economic and humanitarian support for Ukraine.

This was stated on Thursday in Washington by Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. State Department Vedant Patel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We expect and hope that the Congress will be able to act as quickly and efficiently as possible so that we can continue to fulfill our obligations to support our Ukrainian partners," the foreign ministry spokesman said.

He emphasized that this includes security assistance, as well as economic and humanitarian support.

"If we fail to do this, there will be real, genuine, tangible consequences. And, ultimately, people in Ukraine and their efforts to fight Russian aggression will suffer," the US State Department representative emphasized.

He also noted that the activities of non-governmental, humanitarian and other partner organizations that provide support to Ukraine in various areas will also be at risk.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the US Congress continues to discuss the adoption of President Biden's request for additional spending on national defense, which includes more than USD 60 billion in aid for Ukraine.
