Ukraine has ability, right to restore own borders as of 1991 – U.S. State Department

Ukraine has all the necessary opportunities, as well as the right, to free the temporarily occupied territories and restore its sovereignty within the internationally recognized borders as of 1991.

That’s according to the U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, who spoke at a Washington briefing on Thursday, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.

"We believe that Ukraine has the ability and has the right, and we support Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and its territorial integrity," the State Department spokesman said in response to a question about whether US aid is aimed at restoring Ukraine's 1991 borders.

Miller specified that this means the liberation of parts of Ukraine that Russia has illegally captured and occupied, including Crimea.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Thursday, the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, expressed confidence that Russia will not be able to achieve its strategic goals in Ukraine through military means.
