British Defence Secretary: Russia’s withdrawal from Kherson marks another strategic failure

The withdrawal of Russian troops from Kherson became another strategic failure for the Russian authorities against the background of their aggression against Ukraine.

"Russia’s announced withdrawal from Kherson marks another strategic failure for them. In February, Russia failed to take any of its major objectives except Kherson. Ordinary people of Russia should ask themselves: ‘What was it all for?" reads the statement by British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace posted on Twitter.

He added that the Russian army had suffered a huge loss of life as a result of their illegal invasion of Ukraine and achieved only international isolationism and humiliation.

"Ukraine will press on [at the front]. The UK and the international community will continue to support them. While the withdrawal [of Russians from Kherson] is welcome, no one is going to underestimate the continuing threat posed by the Russian Federation," Wallace stressed.

As reported, on Friday, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported that Ukraine was restoring control over Kherson, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were entering the city, and the only chance for the Russian military to avoid death was to surrender immediately.

The White House hailed Ukraine's "extraordinary victory" in recapturing the city from the Russians.
