EU should be ready to accept more Ukrainians ahead of winter - commissioner

The situation in Ukraine is developing rapidly, so EU countries must be prepared for an increased influx of Ukrainians, especially as winter nears.

European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson said this in Luxembourg before a meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Today we'll have the opportunity to discuss Ukraine - what is happening right now, how we will continue with our support, our readiness to welcome more Ukrainians who flee to Europe, if necessary. We will also discuss the possibility of prolonging temporary protection, at least until March 2024, and, of course, we'll also support Ukrainians who would like to go back. We have to be prepared for different scenarios when it comes to Ukraine, because things are changing more or less while we are speaking," she said.
