MFA Romania slams ex-top diplomat over spreading pro-Russian narratives on Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania issued a special statement regarding the recent statements voiced by the former minister, Andrei Marga, who called on Ukraine to "cede territories."

That’s according to G4Media.ro and other Romanian media platforms, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers Andrii Marga's public statements regarding Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences to be unacceptable. These statements blatantly contradict Romania's official position regarding Russia's illegal, unjustified, and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, as well as the fundamental principles of international law that regulate international relations today," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania stated.

According to the statement, the former top diplomat is currently promoting and spreading malicious narratives produced in Russia. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania emphasizes firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

As reported already, Andrei Marga, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Education of Romania and former rector of one of the Romanian universities publicly stated last Friday that Ukraine’s borders are "unnatural" and that the country should cede its territories to Russia, Hungary, Poland, and Romania.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Romania reacted by expressing regret over Marga’s statement, which calls into question the basic principles of international law.
