Security guarantees are not an alternative to Ukraine's membership in NATO - Yermak

Agreements on security guarantees for Ukraine do not replace the country’s movement toward becoming a NATO member state and will remain in effect until Ukraine gains such membership.

That’s according to the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, who spoke at the presentation of recommendations on security guarantees, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"This is definitely not an alternative to Ukraine's course toward NATO membership, 100 percent. Because it (Euro-Atlantic integration - ed.), first of all, is in our Constitution and, of course, it is for the time being, while Ukraine is not a member of NATO," Yermak said.

At the same time, he expressed hope that the achievements that Ukraine demonstrates in the war against Russia will change the attitude of some NATO nations towards Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.

"I am absolutely convinced that Ukraine's membership in NATO will only strengthen this organization," added the head of the President’s Office.

As reported, on Tuesday, the President’s Office published recommendations on security guarantees for Ukraine, which provide for the creation of the Kyiv Security Treaty, uniting Ukraine and a group of guarantor states.
