Biden to ask Israeli PM to increase assistance to Ukraine - media

U.S. President Joe Biden, who is visiting Israel, intends to discuss the Russian war in Ukraine during talks with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, scheduled for July 14.

This was reported by Vesty.co.il, citing high-ranking sources in Jerusalem and Washington, as seen by Ukrinform.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the president will offer the Israeli leadership "to take a more definite position on the conflict" and increase the amount of assistance to Kyiv. The sources declined to provide any further details on the matter.

According to political analysts, the "Ukraine issue" will be discussed during the talks behind closed doors. No statements or briefings are likely to follow.

Earlier, the media indicated that the White House would like "greater clarity" in Jerusalem's policy regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Sources close to the U.S. administration made it clear that Washington expected "symmetry in countering the threat emanating from the Kremlin" from its main strategic partner in the Middle East. In turn, Jerusalem brought to the White House’s attention the reasons why they are forced to act precisely this way.

As Ukrinform reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a conference chat with students and professors from Israel’s leading educational and research facilities that Ukraine is grateful to the Israeli society for its support in countering Russian aggression, but also seeks assistance from the Israeli authorities, which is not yet available.
