Johnson: Sanctions to be enacted the minute Russia further invades Ukraine

Sanctions against Russia will take effect automatically the moment Russia goes for a further military incursion into Ukraine, and they will enable Britain to specifically target Russia's commercial interests.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson during a joint meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with media representatives following the talks in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

"It is vital that in Moscow they understand that there’ll be automaticity in the way that we apply these sanctions so that the minute there is a further incursion into sovereign Ukrainian territory, then those sanctions will apply,” he said.

Johnson also noted that the package of sanctions proposed by the British government will enable London to pinpoint Russia’s strategic commercial interests, as well as those of Russian individuals.

The British Prime Minister added that the UK had already agreed to apply this kind of approach with American partners, expressing hope that these sanctions would be enacted simultaneously.
