Zelensky: Ukraine, EU agree to redouble efforts to release 450 Kremlin’s prisoners

Ukraine and the European Union have agreed to redouble their efforts aimed at the release of 450 Ukrainians illegally detained by the Russian Federation.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a joint press conference with President of the European Council Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen following the 23rd Ukraine-EU summit, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We also agreed to redouble our efforts to release our prisoners - 450 citizens of our state, illegally detained by Russia," said Zelensky.

As reported, the 23rd Ukraine-EU summit took place in Kyiv on Tuesday.

As part of the participation in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky handed over to UN Secretary-General António Guterres a list of almost 450 Ukrainians illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories and in Russia. Zelensky asked António Guterres to help release the prisoners.
