Borrell, Kuleba discuss deteriorating situation in eastern Ukraine

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba met in Kyiv ahead of the EU-Ukraine Summit to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the east of Ukraine.

That’s according to Borrell’s tweet posted on Tuesday, October 12.

"This morning in Kyiv before the EU-Ukraine Summit, Josep Borrell discussed with Dmytro Kuleba the deteriorating situation in eastern Ukraine and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The European Union strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, "the statement reads.

The parties also discussed the “implementation of the Minsk agreements,” the EU high representative noted.

“The EU stands firmly behind Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the tweet concludes.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on October 12, Kyiv is hosting a 23rd Ukraine-EU Summit.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen are co-chairing the event.

The leaders were expected to discuss the achievements and prospects of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the implementation of the Association Agreement, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, energy security, and deepening sectoral cooperation.
