Zelensky, Erdoğan discuss situation of Crimean political prisoners, FTA

During a meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Volodymyr Zelensky touched upon the issue of assistance that Turkey can provide in the release of Crimean activists, including Nariman Dzhelialov, detained by the occupiers.

As an Ukrinform correspondent in New York reported, the presidents' talks took place at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the United Nations on September 21.

According to President’s Spokesperson Serhiy Nykyforov, the parties discussed the humanitarian situation in the occupied Crimea and "how Turkey can facilitate the release of detainees, including Crimean Tatars."

The presidents also touched upon a number of economic issues and stressed the need to complete the preparation and sign a free trade agreement between the two countries. In this context, the issue of liquefied gas supply from the Middle East with the assistance of Turkey remains relevant for Ukraine.

In addition, the issues of military cooperation, in particular in the naval sphere, were raised during Zelensky–Erdoğan talks.

As reported, Volodymyr Zelensky's working visit to the United States began on September 20. The President arrived in New York to attend the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. His speech at the general debate is scheduled for September 22.
