United States watching Russia's actions, ready to respond if it chooses to act aggressively – Blinken

The United States is closely following Russia's actions and maintains a clear and consistent position on its readiness to respond to the Kremlin's malicious actions at any time.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this during a joint press conference with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in London on Monday, May 3, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“With regard to Russia, as Dominic said, we are focused very much on Russia’s actions and what course it chooses to take. President Biden’s been very clear for a long time, including before he was President, that if Russia chooses to act recklessly or aggressively, we’ll respond,” the secretary of state said.

However, according to Blinken, this does not mean that Washington is looking to escalate.

“We would prefer to have a more stable, more predictable relationship. And if Russia moves in that direction, so will we, and I think President Biden will have an opportunity when he meets with President Putin to talk about that directly,” he emphasized.

At the same time, the diplomat clarified that this is primarily about strategic stability in the world, despite the profound differences that the United States and Russia have.

However, according to him, the further development of relations between Washington and Moscow will depend on which path the Kremlin chooses.

As Ukrinform reported, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken began his visit to the UK on Monday, where he plans to take part in the G7 Foreign and Development Ministers' Meeting.
