Venediktova, Latvian ambassador discuss protection of investments, return of assets

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikans, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of investment protection and return of assets, as well as ways to intensify cooperation between the relevant authorities of both countries.

"Protecting investors' rights is one of the most important tasks for us today, and we already have a lot of successful cases in this area. Our goal is to prevent illegal pressure on business due to criminal prosecution and launch those proceedings where investors are victims. Compliance with the law and the rule of law is the best signal for our international partners that they can cooperate with Ukraine,” the Prosecutor General said.

Venediktova also stressed the urgent need to develop an effective roadmap for the return to Ukraine of assets illegally appropriated by former high-ranking officials and their associates.

In turn, the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia assured of providing continuous support to Ukraine at all levels. He offered assistance in establishing closer ties and constructive cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General's Office of Latvia.

As Ukrinform reported, Latvia supports the provision of a NATO Membership Action Plan to Ukraine amid the escalation of the situation by Russia.
