Foreign Ministries of Ukraine, Sudan to hold political consultations at level of deputy ministers

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Sudan will soon hold political consultations at the level of deputy ministers to discuss practical steps to enhance bilateral cooperation.

This was agreed upon during a phone call between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Acting Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Sudan Omer Ismail, the Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.

Kuleba welcomed the positive democratic transformations in the Sudan and reaffirmed Ukraine's readiness to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation.

For his part, Omer Ismail accepted the proposal of Dmytro Kuleba to hold political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers in the near future in order to discuss the practical steps towards the further development of bilateral relations.

The Ukrainian foreign minister also offered to send a Ukrainian trade mission to the Sudan to present Ukrainian business opportunities and to hold a joint business forum in Khartoum.

The foreign ministers paid special attention to the issue of constructive bilateral cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the most recent contact between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Sudan took place in 2017.

In 2019, the bilateral trade turnover between Ukraine and the Sudan amounted to USD 56.252 million. Ukrainian exports totaled USD 55.094 million, while imports were USD 1.158 million. For 10 months of 2020, bilateral trade reached USD 65.35 million. Agricultural products were the main items of Ukrainian exports.
