Ukrainian president approves National Security Strategy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree enacting the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) decision of September 14, 2020 "On the National Security Strategy of Ukraine."

The head of state signed the decree, No. 392/2020, on Monday, September 14, according to the presidential press service.

"The document puts into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of September 14, 2020 'On the National Security Strategy of Ukraine' and approves the relevant strategy," the decree reads.

According to the document, the National Security Strategy defines the main areas of state policy in the field of national security, in particular the priorities of national interests of Ukraine and ensuring national security, goals and main areas of state policy in the field of national security; current and projected threats to national security and national interests of Ukraine, taking into account foreign policy and domestic conditions; the main areas of the foreign policy of the state to ensure its national interests and security; areas and tasks of reforming and developing the security and defense sector; resources needed for the implementation of the strategy.

The strategy stipulates that Ukraine seeks peace, which is the key to the development of the state, whereas people, their life and health, honor and dignity, inviolability and security are the highest social value.

The ultimate goal of the strategy is to establish a free, prosperous, secure Ukraine, where the rule of law prevails.
