Zelensky: Important that world does not remain silent about Russian strikes
President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the importance of the international community not remaining silent about Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine and of maintaining stable international support for Ukraine in order to protect human lives.
He made the statement in his evening address, according to Ukrinform.
Zelensky noted that earlier that morning he visited the site where a Russian Kh-101 missile struck Kyiv's Darnytskyi District, completely destroying one section of a nine-story residential building.
"Remnants of the missile were found in the basement. Twenty-four people were killed, including three children. Ordinary people. They were simply at home, unfortunately. My deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. It is important that the world does not remain silent about such strikes, and it is important that support for Ukraine continues," Zelensky emphasized.
According to him, this support is not meant to help Ukrainians take what belongs to others, but to help Ukrainians defend what is theirs — their freedom and their lives.
"We will certainly defend Ukraine. No matter what threats we face, Ukraine exists – and it will endure. Russia must end this war of theirs. We need peace," he said.
As Ukrinform previously reported, during the night of May 14 Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine, with Kyiv being the primary target. In the Darnytskyi District, 18 apartments in a high-rise residential building were destroyed. The deaths of 24 people, including three children, have been confirmed.
