Foreign Ministry counts on Norway's active support for Ukraine's initiatives in UN

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry counts on the active support of Norway, which will be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from January 1, 2021, for Ukraine's initiatives in the UN on restoring the country's territorial integrity, the ministry's press service has reported.

According to the report, this issue was discussed at a meeting between Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar and Norwegian Ambassador to Ukraine Erik Svedahl.

"During the meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Ukraine Erik Svedahl, Vasyl Bodnar expressed hope that Norway, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from January 1, 2021, will actively join the UN in supporting the initiatives of Ukraine and the international community to restore the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders," the report said.

Bodnar stressed the importance of cooperation within the Crimean Platform, in particular, drawing international attention to issues of human rights violations and militarization of the occupied peninsula.

Both parties noted the two countries' common position in counteracting hybrid threats, including the importance of cooperation to counter Russia's disinformation campaigns, especially attempts to falsify history.

Bodnar noted the active bilateral dialogue between the countries, which continues despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, both parties discussed preparations for the next meeting of the Ukrainian-Norwegian intergovernmental commission on cooperation in trade, entrepreneurship and economy and its agenda.
