Ukraine to host NATO PA for first time in 2020 – Iryna Gerashchenko

A Ukrainian delegation has amended several important resolutions of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and achieved the holding of the NATO PA session in Ukraine in 2020.

First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko stated this, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“Firstly, we managed to agree on the holding of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Ukraine for the first time in 2020. Step by step, we are approaching our strategic goal –NATO membership ... We also made all the amendments related to Nord Stream 2, counteracting Putin's political project, and called on our partners to impose both economic and energy sanctions against the Russian Federation. We managed to make amendments on the status of the territories of Georgia and Ukraine occupied by Russia and on strengthening of the NATO deterrence forces in the east. We ask to strengthen the Alliance’s presence in the Baltic States and the Black Sea region,” she said.

The vice speaker also noted that the Ukrainian delegation provided the Parliamentary Assembly with important information regarding the activities of Russia's Wagner military group. “We gave several reports to our partners, for which we want to thank the SBU and the non-governmental sector, in particular, InformNapalm, who provided information about the Wagner Group that organizes militants not only in Donbas but also in Syria,” Gerashchenko said.
