Zelensky explains how Trump should pressure Putin
President Volodymyr Zelensky outlined three key steps that could help Donald Trump stop Russia's aggression and ensure lasting peace for Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, he stated this in an interview with Politico.
Zelensky emphasized that the U.S. president should act without regard for Moscow's opinion. His top priority is providing Ukraine with security guarantees.
"I think so… He [Trump] has to give us security guarantees, strong security guarantees, without dialogue with Putin. Because it's security guarantees of the President of the United States," Zelensky said.
The second step is implementing plans for Ukraine's reconstruction. According to Zelensky, this is a necessary condition for moving toward peaceful life.
"Give us the package of reconstruction of Ukraine. It's the second step: that we will renovate, and it means that peace will come," the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
The next stage should be a direct demand to Putin to end the war.
"Third point: to call Putin and say: 'Look, you have to stop where you are now. We have to freeze the conflict now, and then we will meet trilaterally on the leaders' level and we will manage how to finish this war,'" Zelensky said.
As Ukrinform reported, the Ukrainian delegation, led by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, has already begun preparations for a trilateral meeting of representatives from Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia, which will take place in Geneva on February 17–18.
