Yovanovitch thanks Ukraine for expulsion of Russian diplomats

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has thanked the Ukrainian side for solidarity with democratic countries in the issue of expelling Russian diplomats as a response to Russian aggression in the world.

This was stated at a meeting between the ambassador and Head of Ukraine's Presidential Administration Ihor Rainin on Tuesday, March 27, the press service of the head of state reported.

"The U.S. ambassador thanked the Ukrainian side for its solidarity with the world's leading democracies regarding the expulsion of Russian diplomats in response to Russia's aggressive actions in the world," the statement reads.

In addition, the sides discussed ways of further interaction with the advancement of reforms in Ukraine, as well as relevant issues of cooperation as part of international organizations.

Over 20 countries have already announced the expulsion of Russian diplomats. These actions were introduced as a sign of solidarity with Britain after the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury with a Novichok nerve agent.

Ukraine also approved the decision to expel 13 Russian diplomats.
