Ilmi Umerov in European Parliament urges not to recognize presidential election in Russia

Ilmi Umerov, the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, calls on the democratic international community not to recognize the results of Russia’s presidential election on March 18.

He stated this at the hearings in the European Parliament "Four years of occupation. The ways to support Crimea and the Crimean Tatar people, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Putin's election is approaching - March 18, the day of the so-called annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation. This date was deliberately chosen. Legally, Crimea is the Ukrainian territory. In this territory, the Russian Federation holds elections. Can we recognize these elections? These elections are invalid. Each country, including the leading states of the world, has every reason not to recognize the results of Putin's election," Umerov said.

The deputy chairman of the Mejlis also notes that the recognition of these elections will be "immoral".

He also calls on the international community to boycott the World Cup final, which will be held in Russia this year.
