UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas is integral component of Minsk agreements – Poroshenko

The deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas is an integral component of the Minsk agreements and the most important part of the strategy for return of the Ukrainian sovereignty in the east of the country.

President Petro Poroshenko announced this at the 14th annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I am very pleased that the United States supports the introduction of UN peacekeepers throughout Donbas region. This is not because they want to see more armed people in Donbas. This is an absolutely integral component of the Minsk agreements," Poroshenko said.

In his opinion, the main problem of improper implementation of the Minsk agreements is that Russia does not have a clear plan on how to implement them, and Ukraine has no clear guarantees that Russia will keep its word; therefore, UN peacekeepers throughout Donbas region must become "a guarantee of the implementation of the Minsk agreements".
