Minsk agreements must be fully implemented – joint statement by Waszczykowski, Steinmeier

Full implementation of the Minsk agreements is needed to settle the conflict in eastern Ukraine. NATO responded to annexation of Crimea and destabilization in eastern Ukraine clearly and unanimously.

This is said in the joint statement by Foreign Minister of Poland Witold Waszczykowski and Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of signing the agreement on good neighborly relations and mutual cooperation between Berlin and Warsaw, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Poland and Germany share the view that maintaining EU’s unity is essential, especially for settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The settlement of the conflict lies in full implementation of the Minsk agreements, respect for international law and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," the statement reads.

It is also noted that Poland and Germany support the territorial integrity of Georgia and Moldova.

The document stresses that the EU again faces deterioration of the security situation in the eastern and southern neighborhoods after 25 years of peaceful political changes on the continent.

"NATO responded to it firmly and unanimously," the statement says.

It is noted that a positive message "of unity and readiness for dialogue" will be sent during the Warsaw NATO summit, scheduled for July 8-9.
