Forest fire in Chornobyl exclusion zone covers 1,200 hectares

A large-scale forest fire is ongoing in the Chornobyl exclusion zone in the Kyiv region, with firefighters working to extinguish flames that have already spread over an area of 1,200 hectares.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on Facebook.

As of 17:00 on Saturday, May 9, the fire had already affected 1,200 hectares. Dry weather conditions and strong wind gusts are contributing to the spread of the flames.

A total of 374 personnel have been involved in extinguishing the fire, including 253 rescuers from the State Emergency Service.

“The situation is fully under control,” firefighters assured.

As reported by Ukrinform, the fire in the Chornobyl zone currently poses no radiation threat.
