Terrorist attack in Lviv: Police officer killed, 24 people injured
A 23-year-old police officer was killed and 24 people were injured in a terrorist attack in Lviv in the early hours of Sunday, February 22.
The Lviv regional police announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
The officer killed in the attack was 23-year-old Viktoriia Shpylka.
"She was originally from the Volyn region and later moved with her parents to Kherson. She chose the path of serving people – she graduated from Lviv State University of Internal Affairs and joined the patrol police. She first served in the Kherson region and, since 2023, in the Lviv region," the police said.
A patrol police service vehicle and a civilian vehicle were damaged.
Preliminary reports indicate that improvised explosive devices detonated.
"At around 00:30 today, a report was received on the 102 emergency line about a break-in at a store on Danylyshyna Street. After a patrol police crew arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred. Later, when a second crew arrived, another explosion went off," the statement said.
According to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, some of the injured are in serious condition.
