On the morning of Wednesday, October 1, a fire broke out at the Novo-Yaroslavl oil refinery (PJSC Slavneft-YANOS) in the Russian city of Yaroslavl.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by BBC News Russian.

Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev stated that the fire was not related to a drone attack.

“No UAV attacks were recorded today. The fire is of a technogenic nature,” he claimed.

Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the fire was first reported at 06:28 on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses have shared videos showing a large column of smoke rising above the facility. No casualties have been reported.

The Novo-Yaroslavl refinery is one of Russia’s largest producers of petroleum products. It manufactures automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, jet fuel, liquefied gases, and heating oil.

Telegram channel Astra published photos and videos of the fire taken by local residents. The smoke was visible from various parts of the city.

Slavneft-YANOS is the primary refining asset of the vertically integrated company JSC NGK Slavneft, 99.7% of whose shares are jointly controlled by Rosneft and Gazprom.

Andrii Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, stated on Telegram that the Yaroslavl refinery ranks among the top five in Russia by capacity. Operational since 1961, it is one of the country’s largest oil processing enterprises, with an average annual output of around 15 million tonnes of crude oil.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, on September 24, drones operated by the SBU's Special Operations Center A have reached Bashkortostan for the second time in seven days, targeting the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat facility.
