Ban on fishing introduced in Kherson region amid flood

It is forbidden to swim in the open, go fishing, as well as sell and consume fish across Kherson region.

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, issued the alert on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"Our water is now hazardous. The concentration of harmful substances in water samples is 10 times the norm. I have issued an order to ban swimming and fishing in water bodies, as well as selling fish in the region. In wells and open water bodies in the flooded area, there may be chemicals, pathogens of infectious diseases from flooded cemeteries, latrines and landfills. Let's not forget that there could be many substances hazardous to people’s health at the bottom of the Kakhovka HPP, destroyed by the Russians. Therefore, please prepare your food and drink only using bottled or imported water," said the regional chief.

He added that tomorrow, thunderstorms, hail, and 15-29 mps wind gusts are expected in Kherson region so volunteers will not be allowed to participate in rescue operations.

As reported, the rescue and evacuation operation is underway in the areas affected by flooding caused by the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP dam perpetraded by Russian troops on the night of June 6.
