Zelensky, Svyrydenko discuss energy protection strategy for next winter

Ukraine's energy recovery strategy will be finalized on March 1.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in his evening video address, Ukrinform reports.

"We had a detailed discussion with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko on preparing our strategy for energy recovery and enhanced protection of the energy sector for next winter. We will finalize the strategy by March 1 and approve it afterward. This is to ensure that the European Commission, European countries, the United States, global businesses, and Ukrainian companies with the necessary capacity can all join in and work together with us – alongside our people – to strengthen resilience and expand our capabilities ahead of next winter. Of course, this also concerns the period this year when Russian strikes may continue targeting our infrastructure and our cities," he said.

According to Zelensky, the strategy will take into account the positive experience of Ukrainian cities and communities that are coping with this winter better than others.

On February 24, at a press conference in Kyiv, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the European Union would help Ukraine prepare for the 2026-2027 winter season under an already developed EUR 920 million plan.

Svyrydenko also stressed that Ukraine, together with the European Union, would work on a new Winter Energy Plan for 2026-2027.
