Ukraine and Canada to deepen strategic energy partnership
First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal and Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson signed a memorandum of cooperation on the sidelines of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Ministerial Meeting.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
Shmyhal noted that the document opens new opportunities for cooperation in nuclear and renewable energy, the oil and gas sector, infrastructure recovery and protection, energy efficiency, and innovation.
The memorandum is described as a long-term instrument for attracting Canadian technologies, investment, expertise, and implementing joint projects.
The ministers also discussed an initiative aimed at strengthening the protection and resilience of Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure through reinforced protective structures, shelters for personnel, and active defense systems.
As reported, during the IEA events in Paris, Shmyhal addressed energy ministers from the G7, the European Union, and leading global companies. He proposed establishing an Energy Task Force to support Ukrainian energy specialists.
