Ship carrying Ukrainian soy damaged in Odesa port after overnight Russian attack

A Lebanon-flagged vessel carrying Ukrainian soy was damaged as a result of the December 23 attack on Odesa's port infrastructure.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba, announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"Once again, the Odesa region and port infrastructure came under enemy fire. Civilian warehouses and critical energy facilities were damaged. In addition, as a result of the overnight shelling, a civilian Lebanon-flagged vessel carrying Ukrainian soy was damaged in the Odesa port," the statement said.

According to Kuleba, there were no casualties. Cleanup and recovery efforts are ongoing.

He noted that this latest Russian attack targeted Ukraine's energy and infrastructure facilities. The worst damage occurred in Ukraine's western regions. In regions struck by the enemy, electricity supply is disrupted. Efforts are underway to connect heating and water supply enterprises to backup power sources. "Points of invincibility" are operating to assist residents.

On the night of December 22-23, Russia launched over 650 drones, many of them Shahed-type, and more than 30 missiles at Ukraine, affecting at least 13 regions. In the Kyiv region, a woman was killed by a Russian drone strike. One person was killed in the Khmelnytskyi region, and in Zhytomyr a four-year-old child was killed when a drone hit a residential building. Several others were injured.
