Cabinet of Ministers allows Ukrenergo to buy electricity to cover technical losses
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a decision aimed at curbing the growth of electricity transmission tariffs.
This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
As Svyrydenko noted, the electricity transmission tariff is a significant component of electricity costs for all consumers.
"We have changed the mechanism by which 'Ukrenergo' can purchase electricity to cover technical losses. Now the operator will be able to buy it not only where prices change rapidly and significantly, but also on special markets — at more predictable and often lower prices," Svyrydenko said.
According to her, for consumers, including industrial enterprises, this means slower growth of electricity transmission tariffs and more predictable costs for companies that operate for export and create jobs.
As previously reported, the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NERC) plans to increase Ukrenergo's transmission service tariff by 14.6% from January 1, 2026, to 786.74 UAH/MWh.
