EU to provide second tranche of EUR18B aid to Ukraine next week

Next week, the European Union will transfer to Ukraine EUR 1.5 billion in a second tranche that is part of the EUR 18 billion macro-financial assistance program.

That’s according to Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, who announced the allocation of funds on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"The EU is committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as needed. We expect to make second MFA+ payment next week - €1.5 bln in emergency support to help Ukraine meet immediate needs,” Dombrovskis wrote.

As reported earlier, the Council of the European Union on December 10 supported the European Commission's proposal to allocate additional financial support to Ukraine in 2023. The new program of macro-financial assistance amounts to EUR 18 billion. It is expected that preferential loan funds will be transferred to the Ukrainian budget throughout 2023 in equal parts, taking into account the progress in fulfilling the conditions agreed on by the parties. On Monday, Ukraine and the EU signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the provision of the said macro-financial assistance.

On January 17, Ukraine received the first EUR 3 billion tranche.
