Zaporizhzhia NPP must return to Ukraine's control - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres have discussed the issue of ending Russia's nuclear blackmail and restoring the safety and security of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

The head of state said this at a joint press conference with the UN chief in Kyiv on Wednesday, March 8, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We discussed today how to stop Russia's nuclear blackmail and restore the safety of all Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which was violated by Russia, in particular the safety of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The ZNPP must return to full Ukrainian control - this is a matter of global security, not only Ukrainian security," Zelensky said.

Guterres arrived on an official visit to Kyiv on Wednesday.

Russian troops captured the ZNPP early on March 4. The invaders placed military equipment and ammunition at the station. They are constantly shelling the surrounding area and the station itself, destroying power lines and causing external power outages. About 500 Russian invaders stay at the plant.
