EU to donate 5,700 solar panels to Ukraine

Ukraine will soon receive the first batch of 5,700 solar panels to power critical infrastructure amid Russian missile attacks.

European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen stated this in a video message published on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

“Now, I can announce that a first batch of solar panels will be delivered to Ukraine soon. ENEL (Italian power company – ed.) is donating 5,700 solar panels for Ukraine. Solar panels produced in Europe, in Catania, with the support of the European Innovation Fund,” she said, stressing that Russia is targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure with deliberate strikes.

According to the European Commission president, these panels can cover more than 11,000 square meters of roofs of public buildings.

“I am convinced that other European companies, as well as Member States, will be inspired by this first step. So that Ukraine can rely on clean electricity, produced at home,” she said.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, 5,700 solar panels will arrive in Ukraine by the summer. Minister of Energy German Galushchenko discussed this issue during an online meeting with EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and Enel CEO Francesco Starace.
