U.S. allocates another $4.5B in financial aid to Ukraine

The United States Government announced budget support to Ukraine in the amount of $4.5 billion.

That’s according to a statement published on the website of the U.S. Treasury.

"Today, the United States continued to uphold its unwavering commitment to Ukraine with the mobilization of an additional $4.5 billion in grants for direct budget support. These funds will begin disbursing in the coming weeks and help the Government of Ukraine defend against Russia's illegal war by bolstering economic stability and supporting core government services, including wages for hospital workers, government employees, and teachers as well as social assistance for the elderly and vulnerable," said the Treasury Secretary.

She added that, in combination with U.S. security support and the immense bravery of the Ukrainian people, these funds are a critical tool for Ukraine's resistance to Putin's unprovoked invasion.

"These disbursements will bring total U.S. direct budget support to Ukraine to $13 billion, all in grants. We encourage other donors to increase and accelerate their assistance to Ukraine. In addition to providing economic support, the Treasury Department and U.S. government will continue to use all of our tools, including our historic sanctions coalition, to weaken Putin's war machine," Yellen said.

The U.S. Government funding comes from USAID.

“The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and in coordination with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of State, is providing an additional $4.5 billion in direct budgetary support to the Government of Ukraine. The funding, which will help alleviate the acute budget deficit caused by Putin’s brutal war of aggression, was made possible with generous bipartisan support from Congress. The Government of Ukraine will receive the funding in two tranches before the end of 2022. These funds, provided by the United States through the World Bank, allow the Government of Ukraine to withstand the immense economic, social, and political pressures from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine,” reads the press release posted on the USAID website.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine received $60 million from the World Bank, which will be directed to the reimbursement of state budget expenditures made to ensure payments to employees of state bodies and budgetary education facilities.
