The Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi has received UAH 100 million for the reconstruction of a local airport, Chernivtsi Regional State Administration reports on its Facebook page.

"Bukovyna received UAH 100 million for the reconstruction of Chernivtsi Leonid Kadeniuk International Airport. The government of Ukraine allocated money for the restoration of the airport," the report reads.

According to First Deputy Chairman of Chernivtsi Regional State Administration Bohdan Kovaliuk, the runway will be reconstructed first. "We have already held consultations with the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine regarding technical specifications and regulatory requirements for the repair of the runway. In the near future, we plan to announce a tender for the performance of works," he said.

The regional administration reported that UAH 100 million received was the first stage of government assistance for Chernivtsi airport repairs.

The reconstruction of the airport runway began in November 2016. Since February 2017, in connection with the completion of the runway overhaul, the State Aviation Administration has allowed the airport to receive aircraft of category 4C. The complete reconstruction costs more than UAH 620 million.
