Development of agricultural sector remains priority for Ukraine – Shmyhal

The development of the agricultural sector remains the main priority for Ukraine, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has stated.

"Our priority remains the development of the agricultural sector. This means opening and liberalizing the land market, improving land-reclamation infrastructure and improving the quality and safety of food. Ukraine must become one of the centers of food security for the world, and we call on investing in this," Shmyhal said at the fourth Ukrainian-German Economic Forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Shmyhal, for the third year in a row, Ukraine is improving agricultural exports, and Germany remains a stable member of the top ten importers of Ukrainian agricultural products.

The Prime Minister also reminded that Ukraine is establishing a business IT partnership and it hopes that the German side will positively accept the idea of formalizing such a partnership at the intergovernmental level.

"The government focuses to the effective implementation of land reform, decentralization and transformation of coal regions with the help of German partners. Germany's experience in mine closure and transformation of coal regions is especially valuable for us. We are planning to launch a number of pilot projects on the transformation of coal regions with the support of Germany this year,” Shmyhal said.
