Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine halved in Q1 2020

In the first quarter of 2020, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine amounted to 11.1 billion cubic meters.

"In the first quarter of 2020, the volume of natural gas transit was 11.1 billion cubic meters (in January it was 2.5 billion cubic meters, in February – 4 billion cubic meters, and in March - 4.6 billion cubic meters)," the press service of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) LLC reports on Facebook.

It notes that the transit volumes have actually halved compared to the average volumes for January-March in 2014 - 2019.

NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine explains that the reduction in Russian gas transit was caused by an oversupply of European gas market and a decrease in consumption. But the reduction in pumping volumes does not reduce the income of Naftogaz and the new independent GTS Operator.
