Vice-President of European Commission in Kyiv discusses transit of Russian gas
Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič intends to discuss in Kyiv the issues of extending energy reforms and holding of trilateral gas talks between the EU, Ukraine and Russia.
This is reported in a press release of the European Commission on Monday.
“Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič, who is in Kyiv today, representing the European Union at the inauguration ceremony of new President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky… will hold bilateral meetings with President Zelensky, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and CEO of Naftogaz Andriy Kobolyev that will particularly focus on reforms of the energy sector and on trilateral gas talks between the EU, Ukraine and Russia,” reads the report.
The European Commission also cites Šefčovič, who recalled the letter by President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and President of the European Council Donald Tusk, addressed to Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky immediately after the announcement of the results of the second round of elections.
“I reiterate our appreciation for Ukraine's strong attachment to democracy and the rule of law that the people demonstrated throughout the elections. Ukraine can count on the EU's strong support to its reform path, including consolidating the rule of law, fighting corruption, maintaining macro-financial stability and pursuing the essential reform of the energy sector,” he said.
