Ukraine to insist on keeping gas transit in a volume of not less than 40 bcm – Nasalyk

Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk has stated that Ukraine will insist on maintaining the natural gas transit in a volume of not less than 40 billion cubic meters after 2019, otherwise it will be economically unprofitable for Ukraine.

He told this to journalists, when commenting on the statement by Russia’s Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller that gas transit flows through Ukraine could be between 10 and 15 bcm per year.

"Ukraine will not agree on such volumes, because they will be economically unprofitable for Ukraine. This means we will need to invest funds to pump such gas volumes," Nasalyk said, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He recalled that the European Commission assured it would assist in keeping the natural gas transit through Ukraine.

"We will fight to maintain the transit of more than 40 billion cubic meters," Nasalyk stressed.
