NBU expects inflation rate to decline within a year and a half

The National Bank of Ukraine forecasts that inflation in Ukraine will decline to a single-digit rate by the middle of 2019.

Acting NBU Governor Yakiv Smoliy said this at a meeting with MPs from the Radical Party parliamentary faction, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The inflation rate over the past year reached 13.7%. The policy rate is one of the tools that the National Bank can influence on the inflation reduction. We forecast that inflation will drop to a single-digit rate in 2018 – the middle of 2019," Smoliy said.

He also added that he is ready to submit his action plan as head of the NBU.

As earlier reported, President Poroshenko tabled in the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution on Yakiv Smoliy's appointment as governor of the National Bank of Ukraine
